conference on children in Europe and central Asia ended in Sarajevo on
Saturday with the adoption of a joint declaration.#L#
The event in the Bosnian capital pooled officials from 46 countries
who agreed that it was necessary to strengthen mechanisms for the
implementation of children's rights, reduction of poverty and ensuring
free and high-quality education.
Participants in the Sarajevo conference assumed the obligation to
change their countries' legislation in order to ensure systematic
protection of children from all forms of abuse and violence.
Officials of the United Nations and UNICEF voiced satisfaction with
the three-day conference and the declaration.
