Kalmeta said that the contracts were signed as part of a plan to
rebuild around 4,000 family houses by the end of October and that more
than 896 million kuna had been earmarked for the purpose. He recalled
that contracts worth more than 345 million kuna were signed with 89
contractors last month for the reconstruction of 1,750 houses in Lika
and Dalmatia.
Assistant Minister for Regional Development Ljudevit Herceg said that
the Ministry expected the contractors to abide by the October deadline
for completion of their work since the funds for the reconstruction
had been secured.
Kalmeta said that the reconstruction of all war-damaged houses in the
country would be completed by September 2005, including those from
applications for reconstruction filed by September 30 this year. He
added that funds for the newly-received applications would be raised
by next year's budget.
