ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - The Union of Journalists of Croatia (SNH) on
Monday staged a work stoppage called "Five Minutes of Thunderous
Silence" on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, May 3.#L#
In a declaration to journalists, media workers, media owners and the
public, the union said that journalists and media workers in Croatia
were still deprived of some basic human rights because many of them
worked without contracts and lacked basic social security.
The purpose of the fifth work stoppage, which was staged between 11:55
and noon, is to point to the need of signing a collective agreement
for journalists and media workers, which media workers and their
employers have been negotiating about since last May.
The union said that their action met with massive support among
journalists and media workers.
The action was joined by numerous journalists in neighbouring
countries and previously received support from the International
Federation of Journalists.
