The funeral in Qabar, a village near the ethnically divided Kosovska
Mitrovica in northern Kosovo, was also attended by senior Kosovo
officials, including Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi, several ministers,
many political leaders, foreign diplomats and numerous journalists.
Kosovo President Ibrahim Rugova extended condolences to the children's
families.
The funeral, with tight security provided by the NATO-led Kosovo
Force, the local U.N. Mission and the Kosovo police, proceeded without
any incidents.
The U.N. Mission police have still not officially revealed the
circumstances under which the Albanian children drowned. Their deaths
incited a spate of bloody protests in Mitrovica and other parts of
Kosovo which claimed the lives of 28 people and left more than 600
wounded.
The situation on Sunday is calm and life is gradually going back to
normal. President Rugova has proclaimed Monday a day of mourning for
all the people who were killed in the recent two-day clashes.
