The violence has brought into question the achievements of the last
five years, the signatories told a news conference, adding that they
stand united in their resolute opposition to such criminal acts.
The declaration was signed by the commander of NATO's Allied Forces
Southern Europe, Admiral Gregory Johnson, the U.N. civil administrator
in Kosovo, Harri Holkeri, Kosovo Force commander Holger Kammerhoff,
representatives of five Western countries' offices in Pristina, Kosovo
President Ibrahim Rugova, Parliament Speaker Nexhat Daci, Prime
Minister Bajram Rexhepi, and the leaders of the principal political
parties.
Ethnic Albanians have continued to protest in many Kosovo
municipalities today, KFOR, and the U.N. Mission (UNMIK) and the
Kosovo police are investing big efforts to defuse the situation, which
is under control. Police curfew has been introduced in some parts of
Kosovo.
An UNMIK spokesman told Voice of America tonight that 31 people died
in the recent clashes, something other sources have not confirmed.
