A large number of troops of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) and the UN Mission
in Kosovo (UNMIK) have taken full control over the situation in
Kosovska Mitrovica. KFOR's commander for northern Kosovo, French
General Xavier Michel, said the situation in the city was calm.
The burial of two Albanian boys, whose drowning in the Ibar river
triggered the violence, will be held in the village of Qaber in the
north of the province today. Kosovo Premier Bajram Rexhepi is expected
to attend.
KFOR and police forces will provide for security at the funeral.
Three Albanian boys drowned in the Ibar river on Wednesday while they
were, according to eyewitnesses, running away from local Serbs who
were chasing them with dogs. The body of the third boy has not been
recovered yet. International police forces in the province have still
not reported the results of the investigation into the incident.
