Slovenia has proposed signing such an agreement some time ago and is expecting an answer from Croatia, the Slovene news agency STA said on Thursday.
"The bilateral agreement will be the legal foundation for settling possible denationalisation claims by Slovene and Croatian citizens. Slovenia will be ready for negotiations on such a reciprocal agreement as soon as it receives an answer from Croatia," the Slovene Justice Ministry said.
According to STA, the agreement would be similar to a deal initialled by Croatia and Austria last week which has elicited stormy reactions among Croatia's politicians and public.
Slovene media said that some 80 Slovene citizens and legal subjects had applied in Croatia for the return of or compensation for seized property in accordance with a law on damages for property seized under the communist rule.
