The IMF officials wanted to acquaint the President of the Republic with the consultations between the IMF mission and the Croatian executive and monetary authorities.
The mission is currently in Croatia to complete a second review of the existing stand-by arrangement and discuss modalities of further cooperation in the next term.
The financial arrangement with the IMF could have a great impact on the speed of Croatia's accession to the European Union and could be crucial for the country's access to international financial markets, which is why it is of utmost importance to maintain the existing credit rating, according to the statement.
The IMF officials also presented their views on key aspects of Croatian economic policy for 2006.
