PUNTA ARENAS, Oct 23 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic arrived in Punta Arenas in south Chile on Sunday where he is scheduled to meet representatives of the Croat community after such trips to Santiago and Antofagasta.

Punta Arenas is a city to which Croatian immigrants started arriving in the second half of the 19th century and from there continued to settle in others parts of Chile.

Fifteen per cent of Punta Arenas' population, or 30,000 residents, are Croatian. A Croatian club is active in the city which also has a Croatian language newspaper, Male Novine. Classes in one school are taught in Croatian.
