Assistant Economy Minister Zeljko Tomsic told the government that everything had been done so as to ensure the normal provision of natural gas supplies.
This winter, no problems in the provision of gas supplies are expected provided that there would be no extremely low temperatures.
The Croatian national oil company INA imported necessary supplies from other sources this summer after the Russian Federation introduced measures for the natural gas reductions. The Croatian Power Company (HEP) reduced its usage of natural gas to some extent, and INA stored 530 million cubic metres of gas in its underground warehouse of Okoli, Tomsic said.
In case of any gas supplies shortages, there will be no gas cuts for households.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader spoke about the importance of the construction of a gas supplies network.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the pace of the construction of the network's section from Pula to Karlovac, Sanader insisted that the works be completed within next six months.
The premier also asked for the acceleration of the works on the gas supples network in other areas of the country, and ordered the preparation of a project for the construction of the network toward the southern city of Dubrovnik.
He also announced a meeting with representatives of local authorities on the distribution of gas supplies to households.
Croatia annually spends some 2.9 billion cubic metres of natural gas, importing 40 percent of that amount.
