The European Commission has provided 1.75 million euros for the implementation of the project, which started in April this year and is expected to be completed within a period of 21 months.
This is the first decentralised CARDS project in Croatia. It covers four areas of the most important adjustments in agriculture and veterinary public health on Croatia's path to membership of the European Union. Its implementation will also cover most of the questions to be dealt with during the EU accession talks, which opened last night.
The aim of the project is to develop a national food safety strategy and a network of official laboratories, and build institutional and administrative capacity for implementing Croatian legislation, which must be harmonised with the EU acquis communautaire.
