STRASBOURG, Sept 28 (Hina) - Croatia does not want Europe to become divided over it, but its wants all 25 EU member states and political groups in the European Parliament to unanimously support the launching of Croatia-EU membership talks, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Sanader made the statement while speaking to Croatian reporters on the second day of his visit to the European Parliament and after meetings with Martin Schultz, head of the European Social Democrats, which is the second largest group in the European Parliament, and Hannes Swoboda, a member of the same group and the Parliament's rapporteur on Croatia.

The PM said that all European officials whom he had met supported Croatia's aspirations, stressing the importance of the upcoming reports by the Hague war crimes tribunal chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, and the task force for Croatia.

"Croatia is above party divisions in the Croatian Parliament and in the European Parliament, and it is important for us that European parliamentarians are not divided over Croatia," Sanader said, adding that his decision to talk to representatives of all parliamentary groups was welcomed by European parliamentarians.

Sanader invited Schultz to visit Croatia, which he accepted, and announced that Swoboda would visit Zagreb on Friday.

The PM dismissed speculation in some media about possible political trading within the Union regarding the start of talks with Turkey and Croatia.

"Each country is evaluated according to its individual results and I am confident that leaders of the member countries will appreciate what the Croatian government has done in implementing the Action Plan as the last condition for opening the talks," Sanader said.

Before leaving for Zagreb, Sanader will meet EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, the head of the Greens group in the European Parliament, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, and Council of Europe Secretary-General Terry Davis.
