Mesic and Holy See State Secretary Angelo Sodano held talks which confirmed the Vatican's support for Croatia's efforts to join the EU, a member of the Croatian delegation in New York said, adding that Mesic and Sodano also discussed the situation in the Union and Southeast Europe.
Mesic also held a working lunch with potential US investors in Croatia, representatives of 16 large corporations, discussing Croatia's political stability, rule of law and economic trends.
The president said Croatia was not only good for investing in, but could also be a gateway to the market of Central and Southeast Europe, which has a population of some 150 million.
A meeting scheduled with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was postponed until Friday because the Iranian's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin lasted longer than planned.
At the invitation of French President Jacques Chirac, Mesic will attend a meeting of presidents or prime ministers from member countries of Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, in which Croatia has observer status.
Mesic has also been invited to attend a conference organised by former US President Bill Clinton to tackle global issues such as poverty, the climate, and religious and ethnic conflicts.
