SPLIT, Aug 4 (Hina) - The fear that new regulations aimed at
preventing illegal charter boat operations would repel nautical tourists from
the Croatian Adriatic, has proved to be groundless, as the number of boats at
the Croatian ports rose by 3.5 percent this June and July as against the same
period last year, said Branko Bacic, the state secretary in the Croatian sea
and tourism ministry. He told a news conference in the coastal city
of Split that according to traffic jams in ports and marinas one could expect
that the highest number of boats would visit Croatia this year.
Bacic reiterated the new regulations, which were exposed to harsh
criticism when they were announced earlier this year, actually brought order
and control over the renting of boats. The new measures already brought 46
million kuna into the state budget, he added.
