Underlining that he was speaking on behalf of the United States government, McElhaney said he felt Karadzic's wife pleaded with her husband to surrender to the Hague war crimes tribunal for family reasons, as she herself said in the plea.
The ambassador said his country paid special attention to comments by Bosnian Serb leaders and Serbian President Boris Tadic on Ljiljana Karadzic's plea to her husband.
McElhaney reminded the authorities in Banja Luka and Belgrade that the US was counting on their cooperation.
