Commenting on the CSU's sceptical position on European Union enlargement, Sanader said Stoiber was not against the accession of Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia.
"I expect a very interesting autumn with regard to the negotiations," Sanader said, adding that one should first wait for the results of the early parliamentary elections in Germany.
"I am optimistic about the autumn and the start of negotiations with the European Union," he said.
According to all indicators, the Christian Democratic Union and the CSU will win the elections scheduled for September 18.
Stoiber and Sanader met at the Richard Wagner Museum. Also in attendance were German President Horst Koehler and Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio.
Sanader arrived in Bayreuth at Stoiber's and Sampaio at Koehler's invitation as the only foreign statesmen to attend the opening of the 94th annual Richard Wagner Festival.
