The committee chairman, Ivan Jarnjak, told reporters on Tuesday the committee had established that there were elements of abuse of office and malpractice by POA staff in the case of reporter Puljiz.
Jarnjak declined to speculate whether the Office of State Prosecutor would press charges against former POA chief Josko Podbevsek and the POA agents who questioned Puljiz, but he said that it was beyond doubt that POA had concealed facts from the parliamentary committee and from the Council for the Supervision of Security Services.
The said council and the committee several times checked the POA work because of the Puljiz case and the committee was then told that no evidence was found of the recording of the interview with Puljiz.
The committee concluded that the treatment of Puljiz by POA was an act of violation of her rights and that the POA agents had behaved unprofessionally, but that nothing unlawful was had been committed.
Recently a Croatian weekly published a transcript of the interview with Puljiz, and former head of the Council Vlatko Cvrtila said that the reason why he stepped down was POA's concealment of the tape in question.
Jarnjak said today that the Council had carried out two additional inspections and established that there was the tape, i.e that POA had lied.
Jarnjak expects the National Security Council to discuss the entire case.
