Commenting on protest rallies which Bosnian farmers have been holding in front of the Bosnian government's headquarters in Sarajevo for three days, Sullivan told reporters that the OHR was sorry to see protesters in a situation for which they blamed the free trade agreements.
One of farmers' leaders, Ranko Bakic, has said that protesters insist on the establishment of an agriculture ministry at the state level, higher state subsidies for farmers and the immediate and permanent suspension of the import of food from the neighbouring countries without any tariffs.
Sullivan said that the problems had arisen from the failure of the state and the two entities' authorities to organise, manage and support the agricultural sector in an appropriate way.
He added that the OHR backed farmers' call for a coordinated policy in the country, and that European Union had already given some recommendations for this purpose.
