Sanader said there was no alternative to European unification because the alternative could be confrontation, which he added had often been the case in European history.
According to the Croatian PM, Europe's history, marked by wars, conflicts, aspirations for others' territories, and bloodshed, teaches that it is necessary to find paths which will replace such a history with a safe and prosperous future for all European peoples and states.
He said that this was why it was worth to fight for the European unification project to succeed.
On Friday, Sanader will take part in a plenary session on the challenges and possibilities of the new world, and accept a Crans Montana Forum Foundation award for outstanding contribution to the development of democracy and the fundamental human freedoms.
