"Unlike let's say Turkey, Croatia is a typical democratic Central European country, with a stable economic growth, political stability and stable finances," said Stoiber of the Christian Social Union (CSU) and potential new German foreign minister.
He said the recent negative referendums on the European Constitution indicated, among other things, that the Union's citizens were dissatisfied with the enlargement policy.
Stoiber said this meant that the EU was currently not ready for new members, adding that he informed his hosts of this during a recent visit to Zagreb.
