Of the 25 councillors in the City Council, 13 voted for the nominations - eight from the Independent List of Branimir Glavas, four from the HSP list and Ivan Bernatovic from the HSU, although his party is a member of the so-called anti-Glavas bloc.
The opposition in the City Council is made up of 12 councillors - six from the Liberal Party-Slavonia and Baranja Croatian Party-People's Party-The Croatian Green (LS-SBHS-HNS-The Croatian Green) coalition, three from the Social Democratic Party-Peasant Party (SDP-HSS) coalition, two from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), and one from the HSU.
The former Osijek mayor, Zlatko Kramaric of the LS, left today's inaugural session before it ended, without congratulating his successor.
Yesterday, Kresimir Bubalo, a candidate from the list headed by the controversial politician Glavas, was elected head of Osijek-Baranja County.
Bubalo, who had been the head of the county before the May 15 local elections, was supported by members of the HSP, a coalition partner of Branimir Glavas, as well as by a councilor from the HSS, Zvonko Ibrikis, and councillors of the HSLS and the HSU, Zdravko Vukic and Stjepan Mitrecic respectively.
On Wednesday, HSS leader Zlatko Tomcic announced his proposal to expel Ibrikis from the party after he sided with Glavas and the HSP in Osijek County.
