Police spokesman Miroslav Janic said on Monday the investigation determined there was reasonable doubt to suspect that the 52-year-old man committed a war crime against civilians in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990s.
Slobodan D. was arrested on suspicion that as a member of the Scorpions he took part in the killing of a group of Muslims from Srebrenica. A video of the killing was recently shown at the trial of ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic before the Hague war crimes tribunal.
Slobodan D. was brought before the Zagreb County Court investigating judge later in the day.
