"I have always been pleased to support the activities of the non-governmental sector, because representatives of that sector have more than once proved braver and more forward looking than people in power, paving the way towards restoration of confidence and mutual understanding and towards full normalisation of relations and circumstances in Southeast Europe," Mesic said in his message to Marovic.
In his letter of invitation, Marovic alluded to a recent rally of followers of the pro-Nazi WWII Serbian Chetnik Movement at Ravna Gora in Serbia, saying that "such minor incidents can in no way hamper our shared determination to develop all forms of regional cooperation in the interests of our countries."
The Igman Initiative, which brings together non-governmental organisations from Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia, will discuss promotion of overall relations, with special emphasis on the state and prospects of cultural cooperation.
