ZAGREB, June 1 (Hina) - Workers of the meat-processing company
'Sljeme' on Wednesday evening left the Square of St. Mark in Zagreb, where they
had picketed a government building for 35 days in protest over the situation
in the company. The protest ended after representatives of the City of Zagreb
earlier in the day signed a contract taking over a 73.6-percent stock in the
company from its former majority owner, the Finagra company. "Zagreb
Deputy Mayor Milan Bandic today signed a contract with Finagra
representatives, under which Finagra is selling its 73.6 percent share in
Sljeme at the price of one kuna," trade union representative Ivica Rogic told
Hina on Wednesday evening.
The City of Zagreb has also assumed the obligation to ensure five
million kuna to pay the workers overdue salaries and pay an additional 250,000
kuna to the creditor who had initiated bankruptcy procedure for 'Sljeme', which
means that the procedure will be halted.
