Croatia, as a signatory to the Millennium Development Goals and the Convention of the Rights of Children, is paying special attention to reducing the death rate of mothers and children and is making efforts to improve health care and health care services, Ljubicic said in his address.
In view of unfavourable demographic trends, particularly a drop in the birth rate in the last decade, the Croatian government has taken a series of steps to improve health care for mothers and children, he added.
Ljubicic cited achieving the highest standards in health care for mothers and children as one of the priorities of the Croatian health system.
On the margins of the session, Ljubicic met Marc Danzon, Director of the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe, for talks on further cooperation, particularly in connection with the possibility of opening new centres for the environment and industrial medicine in Zagreb, and on a symposium on health insurance reform, which is due to take place in Dubrovnik in June.
Ljubicic also met Macedonian Health Minister Vladimir Dimov to discuss a bilateral agreement on cooperation in health care and medicine, the statement said.
