BANJA LUKA, May 5 (Hina) - The police in the northwestern Bosnian
town of Prijedor said on Thursday that unknown perpetrators had desecrated the
common grave of Catholic priest Tomislav Matanovic and his parents Josip and
Bozana, whose bodies were found and buried in a local cemetery in 2001, six
years after they were killed. The Prijedor police said they were
intensively searching for the perpetrators who had broken the wooden cross at
the Matanovic grave.
On 19 September 1995 unknown persons took the priest Matanovic and his
parents away from their home in Prijedor, which is in the Bosnian Serb entity.
The Matanovic family were listed as missing for some time and in 2001 their
corpses were found.
In February this year the district court in Banja Luka acquitted 11
Bosnian Serb policemen, who were indicted for the unlawful detention of the
priest Matanovic and his parents from 24 August to 19 September 1995.
