I am very interested in developments in Croatia, in democratic elections in the country and the role Croatia can play as an example of change in the Balkans, Albright said in an interview with Radio Voice of America on Tuesday.
It is encouraging that Croatia has a chance to become a really good member of the European family, she added.
Asked if she thought Croatia was ready to become a member of the European family, Albright said it was not for her to judge, but noted that what was going on in Brussels was becoming much more important for the former Yugoslav republics than the situation in Belgrade.
Albright said that the issue of cooperation with the Hague tribunal was preventing Croatia from making even greater progress towards European Union membership.
