The US administration strongly supports the Hague war crimes tribunal in its efforts to bring to justice those responsible for grave breaches of international humanitarian law, the unnamed State Department official said in a comment on Wednesday's decision by the European Union to delay membership talks with Croatia.
We continue to call on all governments to meet their commitments in order to ensure full cooperation with the tribunal, including the arrest and handover of all fugitive indictees, especially Croatian general Ante Gotovina, Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and his military commander Ratko Mladic, the State Department official said.
At a regular press conference on Thursday, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher declined to comment on the EU decision to postpone the entry talks, saying that it was a matter between the EU and Croatia.
