In response to Pasalic's accusations, President Mesic's office said that it did not to want to comment on nonsense for principled reasons.
Pasalic told Croatian Television on the phone on Wednesday morning that the incident had occurred shortly after he had returned from a business trip and that security camera footage showed the contours of a man throwing grenades into his front yard.
Pasalic, who is perceived as having been involved in murky business dealings in the 1990s, said he did not know why this had been done, except that he could state that he regarded President Stjepan Mesic responsible for inciting the incident.
He added that Mesic had been slandering him for years and levelling against him the ugliest accusations without any grounds.
Pasalic went on to say that only his family and those "who are phone-tapping me" had known of his return from the business trip.
"We don't comment on nonsense for principled reasons," the spokeswoman for President Mesic, Danijela Barisic, told Hina, in response to Pasalic's claims.
Early on Wednesday morning an unidentified person threw two hand grenades into the front yard of Pasalic's house in Zagreb's Remete neighbourhood, Zagreb police said.
Police have still not found the perpetrator or established the reason for the attack, which occurred 45 minutes after midnight. An investigation was carried out, but police would not disclose any details.
Zagreb Police Department spokeswoman Aleksandra Ljuba would not say if Pasalic requested police protection after the explosion or if he had previously received any threats.
