Mesic said in a note he was certain that in the years ahead Parvanov would use the experience he gained in his first presidential term for the benefit of Bulgaria's citizens as well as for the further positive development of relations in the region.
Mesic also said he was pleased Parvanov would lead Bulgaria as it joined the European Union, and added he appreciated Bulgaria's and Parvanov's support for Croatia's aspirations to join the EU and that he was certain Croatia could continue to count on it.
Parvanov won a second, five-year term of office after nearly 75 per cent of the electorate voted for him in a second electoral round on Sunday.
