Autor: mses
SARAJEVO, Feb 1 (Hina) - Each citizen in Bosnia and Herzegovina annually smokes more than 2,000 cigarettes on average, which means that nearly 1.5 million euros "goes into smoke" every day, according to statistical data released in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of National Smokefree Day.

The Banja Luka-based Nezavisne Novine reported on Tuesday that statistics showed that as many as 49.3 percent of men and 35.1 percent of women in Bosnia are cigarette smokers, which is a considerably higher number than in other countries in the region.

Annually, 411 million cigarette packs are sold in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The average price of one pack is two and a half convertible marks. These figures show that every day Bosnians spend three million convertible marks (EUR 1.5 million) on cigarettes.

In other words, 3.8 million Bosnians annually smoke 2,145 cigarettes, while in Croatia annual consumption of cigarettes is 1,849 cigarettes per capita. In Turkey, annual consumption is 1,499 cigarettes per capita.
