ZAGREB/THE HAGUE , June 22 (Hina) - The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has granted a motion by Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte to drop charges against Croatian reporters Stjepan Seselj, Marijan Krizic and Domagoj Margetic, and ruled that this is in the interest of justice and judicial economy, sources at the ICTY said on Thursday.

Seselj, Margetic and Krizic, the first being the publisher and the other two former editors-in-chief of the "Hrvatsko slovo" weekly, were charged with revealing, in December 2004, the identity of protected witness Stjepan Mesic in the trial of Bosnian Croat general Tihomir Blaskic.

Margetic was additionally charged with publishing the transcript of Mesic's 1998 testimony in the Blaskic trial in "Novo Hrvatsko slovo", and these charges were dropped as well.

Josip Jovic, who published the same transcript in December 2000 in the "Slobodna Dalmacija" daily, remains indicted for contempt of court.

The trial chamber conducting the case also made public a separate opinion by Judge Iain Bonomy, who said that del Ponte's decision in no way contributed to court efficiency because the courtrooms that had been reserved for the trials in question now could not be used for other trials.

Bonomy also said that it would be interesting to find out why the indictment against Josip Jovic, whose case the prosecution considered the most serious, was issued four years after he had committed the offence.
