ZADAR, June 9 (Hina) - The Croatian government decided at a
session in Zadar on Friday to cover part of the costs of the defence of General
Rahim Ademi, indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former
Yugoslavia (ICTY) for war crimes. During the closed-door session,
the Ivo Sanader cabinet decided to allocate 92,000 US dollars for this
purpose.
This sum will cover the costs incurred during proceedings held before
the Hague-based ICTY until 1 November 2005, when the case was referred to the
Croatian judiciary. The government cannot cover the costs of the defence for
proceedings in Croatia, as it would constitute conflict of interest since the
state is the plaintiff in the case.
