BELGRADE, April 10 (Hina) - A regional conference on Balkan oil pipelines, pooling more than 100 participants from countries in the region, was held in Belgrade on Monday.

The conference discussed three possible routes for an oil pipeline transporting oil from the Caspian Sea via the Black Sea and Southeast Europe.

The first route is Burgas-Alexandroupolis, the second is Burgas-Valonas and the third would be a pan-European oil pipeline running from the Romanian port of Constanza to Trieste in Italy.

Presenting the Pan-European Oil Pipeline project, the chairman of a joint committee in charge of the project and Assistant Croatian Economy Minister, Zeljko Tomsic, said that an agreement on the project was expected to be signed by the end of April or the beginning of May.

A memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed by Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.

The importance of the pan-European oil pipeline running from Constanza via Pancevo in Serbia and Omisalj in Croatia to Trieste lies in the fact that it would significantly reduce tanker transport in the Adriatic Sea, which is supported by Croatia and Italy, it was said at the conference.
