"The Tribunal has received a brief summary of the autopsy results. According to the pathologists, Slobodan Milosevic"s cause of death was a 'myocardial infarction'. Further, the pathologists identified two heart conditions that Slobodan Milosevic suffered from, which they said would explain the myocardial infarction," the ICTY said in a statement.
The statement added that a toxicological examination would still be carried out and a final report would be issued as soon as possible.
The autopsy was performed by Dutch forensic pathologists at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in The Hague from 1530 to 1945 hours.
Two pathologists from Belgrade attended the examination at the request of the Government of Serbia and Montenegro and with the approval of the Dutch authorities.
According to the statement, Milosevic"s body will be released to the family on Monday.
Milosevic, 64, was found dead in his cell at the ICTY detention unit in the Hague district of Scheveningen around 0900 hours on Saturday. Since a coroner could not establish the cause of death, an autopsy and toxicological tests were ordered.
