ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec
said on Thursday that the announcement by the Social Democratic Party (SDP)
that it would seek a vote of no-confidence in him over the Liburnia case showed
"a lack of any clever ideas" on the part of the strongest opposition
party. "The SDP did not appoint me and will therefore not relieve
me," Polancec told reporters at a meeting with representatives of the
Federation of Workers' Trade Unions on the privatisation of the Croatian
Railways (HZ) company.
SDP leader Ivica Racan announced at a press conference earlier in the
day that his party would send a proposal to Parliament for a vote of
no-confidence in Polancec for allegedly favouring two companies, SN Holding and
DOM Holding, in concluding a deal on the sale of a controlling interest in the
Liburnia Riviera hotel chain.
