DUBLIN, March 2 (Hina) - Croatia can develop faster in a safe and stable environment like the one offered by the European Union, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said at the European National Forum in Dublin on Thursday.

In his address, he highlighted the consensus reached by all Croatian political parties, saying it had already been recognised as the Croatian negotiating model.

Sanader spoke of how a country which had just begun accession negotiations with the EU saw the Union's future.

For Croatia the answer is Euro-Atlantic integration, he said, adding that within the EU and NATO Croatia could ensure a faster development in a safe and stable environment.

He underlined the effectiveness of Croatia's Alliance for Europe, which comprises all parliamentary parties, in the negotiating process.

This specific negotiating model has already been recognised as the Croatian model because no country to date has been able to create such a form of political cooperation between the government and the opposition in the negotiating process, said Sanader.

He went on to say that Croatian society was becoming increasingly more tolerant, that Croatia's political system was modern and progressive, and that it was supported by all national minorities.

Sanader said the economic indicators were good and that Europe could not function well without its southeast, in which he added Croatia wanted to play an active and leading role within the numerous existing regional initiatives.

The speaker before Sanader was former European commissioner for external relations Chris Patten, who strongly supported Croatia's accession to the EU.

The European National Forum is a debate club set up four years ago as a public forum expected to explain to the Irish the functioning of EU institutions and Ireland's role in the Union. It is comprised of members of all parliamentary parties, social partners, and nongovernmental organisations.

Sanader arrived in Dublin today and after the debate club held talks with his host, Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern.
