ZAGREB, March 7 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Tuesdayreceived Victoria Nuland, the United States Permanent Representativeto NATO, for talks on the development of Croatian-US relations andcooperation in the context of
Croatia's preparations for NATOmembership, the Office of the President said in a press release.
ZAGREB, March 7 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on
Tuesday received Victoria Nuland, the United States Permanent Representative to
NATO, for talks on the development of Croatian-US relations and cooperation in
the context of Croatia's preparations for NATO membership, the Office of the
President said in a press release. Nuland highlighted the importance
of Croatia's successful implementation of defence reform and its dealing with
political issues required for alliance membership.
Mesic noted that there was a consensus among all political parties in
Croatia for NATO membership and for strengthening Croatia's involvement in
NATO-led peacekeeping operations. The president also spoke of the results of
the defence reform achieved so far and steps that were yet to be taken in that
regard.
Both sides expressed readiness for further enhancing bilateral
cooperation, with the US pledging to provide support and assistance to Croatia
in its efforts to join NATO.
