ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - The Croatian Trade Unions Federation (HUS) has condemned the refusal of most parliamentary deputies to endorse the Croatian Party of Rights' amendments to the law on the review of ownership transformation and privatisation envisaging confiscation of the property acquired illegally in the process of privatisation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, HUS urged a referendum on the confiscation of illegally acquired property and inspection into privatised property.

HUS said that there was no statute of limitations for privatisation and that the state was obliged to re-examine all deals, recognise legal owners and strip illegal owners of all the rights and pay compensation to people who lost their job due to unlawful privatisation dealings.

The trade union association called on President Stjepan Mesic to join their initiative and the government and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to state their position on a bill on ownership certification for privatised companies sent to them recently by HUS.

If our requests are not met, HUS will not rule out a class action suit before the International Court of Justice and the International Court of Human Rights and report the case to the Council of Europe.
