The strike is scheduled to take place between 8.00 and 16.00 hrs Friday on border crossings while employees of ministries, tax administration, the judiciary and offices of the state administration and state administrative organisations would be on strike on Monday and Tuesday.
The president of the Croatian police union, Dubravko Jagic, said all border crossings would be affected, particularly those which are the busiest - Bregana, Macelj, Rupa, Donji Miholjac and Bajakovo. Police officers would conduct an intensified control at border crossings, namely they would thoroughly check vehicles and people crossing the border, Jagic told Hina announcing a white strike on those crossings,
The four unions gather between 45,000 and 65,000 civil servants. Union representatives said they expect the majority of civil servants and employees would participate in the strike.
The government said earlier today that salaries in civil services could be changed only as part of the adoption of a new law on wages and added it would not pay for the time the workers spend on strike.
The new law is to take effect in 2007.
