SUBOTICA, March 14 (Hina) - The parliament of the northern Serbian
province of Vojvodina on Tuesday denied a request by deputies of the Socialist
Party of Serbia and the Serb Radical Party for the parliament to observe a
minute of silence in tribute to the deceased former Yugoslav president Slobodan
Milosevic. "I did not grant their request because I believe that it
would be inappropriate since Milosevic died at the Hague tribunal where he was
on trial for the gravest criminal acts," the Vojvodina Assembly Speaker and
senior official of the League of Social Democrats, Bojan Kostres, was quoted by
the Beta news agency as saying.
Kostres also said that it would be more moral for deputies to have
observed a minute of silence for "the 200,000 victims of the Milosevic regime
and all Vojvodina residents who died or had to leave the country as a
consequence of Milosevic's policy".
