BELGRADE, March 2 (Hina) - Serbian veterinary services have said
that a swan found in near Sombor in northern Vojvodina, died of bird flu,
caused by H5 virus, the Serbian Agriculture Ministry reported on Thursday, Tests on the dead bird, made by the Novi Sad Veterinary Institute and
the Kraljevo Veterinary Institute, showed that the swan died of avian
influenza.
Samples of the bird's tissue will be sent to England, to the Weybridge
reference laboratory. Serbia said it would introduce safety measures before the
final results arrive from England, the ministry said.
This is the country's first case of bird flu.
