ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - Croatia said on Wednesday it was joining thestatement of the European Union Presidency in expressing concern overthe announcement by Taiwanese leader Chen Shui-bian that the NationalUnification Council would
cease to function and its guidelines wouldno longer be applied, adding that the decision would not contribute topeace and stability in that region.
ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - Croatia said on Wednesday it was joining
the statement of the European Union Presidency in expressing concern over the
announcement by Taiwanese leader Chen Shui-bian that the National Unification
Council would cease to function and its guidelines would no longer be applied,
adding that the decision would not contribute to peace and stability in that
region. By signing the protocol establishing diplomatic relations
with China in 1992, Croatia accepted the position on Taiwan as an integral part
of the People's Republic of China, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a
statement.
Croatia joins the statement of the European Union Presidency in urging
both sides to pursue dialogue, cooperation and confidence building and to
maintain the status quo, the Foreign Ministry said.
