The declaration binds the signatories to adjust programmes for the building of the transport infrastructure. By signing the document, the four countries also showed that they advocate re-directing traffic from roads to environmentally acceptable ways of transport, such as maritime, railway and combined transport, the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development said in a statement.
Croatian Minister Bozidar Kalmeta presented Croatia's activities in building and modernising the transport infrastructure on pan-European transport Corridor Vb (Rijeka-Zagreb-Budapest) and Corridor Vc (Ploce-Sarajevo-Osijek-Budapest).
He said Croatia would complete 55 kilometres of the Zagreb-Rijeka dual carriageway and 55 kilometres of the Osijek-Sredanci dual carriageway by 2008.
During the conference, Kalmeta held talks with Italian Transport Minister Pietro Lunardi about the introduction of a railway line between Zagreb and Padua for the transport of trucks (RO-LA train).
Croatia will take over the presidency of the Quadrilateral Group from Italy in the second quarter of 2006.
