The conference was held under the auspices of the parliamentary committee on home affairs and national security. Its aim is to promote Croatia as a safe destination for the transport of people, goods and capital, with an emphasis on energy routes.
Chairman Ivan Jaranjak said in his opening address that traffic safety was especially important for tourism as Croatia's number one economic branch, but also for the increasingly wide network for the transport of energy sources, which he said demanded strong security measures.
Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic said Croatia was an oasis of safety in the world and that its resolute, consistent and transparent home and foreign policy could make it an effective factor of stability in the region. He added it was necessary to promote security.
The conference continues tomorrow.
