According to the study, commissioned by the port authorities, the seaport has the potential to accept up to seven million passengers annually.
The port's chief manager, Branko Grgic, said that Split, as the third largest port in the Mediterranean after Naples and Piraeus, had received a record 3.5 million passengers and 750,000 vehicles in 2005.
Over the past eight years, 120 million kuna was invested in the streamlining of the port.
