Deputy Justice Minister Niko Grubesic told reporters in Sarajevo that this wrapped up the process which started in 2001, when an initiative was launched during a visit by members of the state presidency to the Vatican to sign an agreement regulating the status of the Catholic Church in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Holy See confirm with the agreement that the state and the Catholic Church are independent and pledge to respect that principle in their relations as well as cooperate in caring for the spiritual and material development of man and promoting the general well-being.
The agreement will regulate the issue of restitution of nationalised church property in the period of ten years after entry into force of the agreement.
For the property that cannot be returned, the state will give the Catholic Church fair compensation.
