Adlesic said the new HSLS would advocate strengthening enterprise, an export-oriented economy, dealing with unemployment, and further privatisation according to the principle of just allocation of the social capital.
"Economic development is the prerequisite for a successful social policy," she added.
Today's assembly also elected six HSLS vice presidents -- Zlatko Benasic, Ivan Cehok, Zelimir Janjic, Zlatko Kramaric, Hrvoje Vojkovic, and Stanko Zrilic.
Cehok, the leader of the former HSLS, said the unification of the two parties was the best way to strengthen the Liberal option.
Benasic, the leader of the former LS, said he was optimistic about the new party.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, the leader of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), supported the unification and commended the HSLS' support for his government's efforts to move Croatia in Europe's direction. He said the Liberals would always be welcome to cooperate for Croatia's benefit.
Among those in attendance who wished the new party success were also an envoy of the president of the republic and officials from the Party of Rights (HSP), the Peasant Party (HSS), the Social Democrats (SDP), the Democratic Centre (DC), and the People's Party (HNS).
