In a report on the screening of the area of science and research, which has been made available to Hina, the EC states that Croatia can be considered sufficiently prepared to start talks on the said chapter and recommends that they be launched.
Croatia has achieved a good level of legislative adjustment also with regard to its capacity to implement the acquis communautaire, reads the report without mentioning any additional conditions for the opening of the talks.
The EC has drawn up the report after the completion of the so-called screening, an in-depth analysis of the level of adjustment of Croatia's legislation to that of the EU in the area of science and research.
The chapter on science and research was the first chapter to be screened.
The Council of Ministers' working group for enlargement is expected to discuss the EC report in the next two to three weeks. After they discuss it, the member-countries are expected to adopt a unanimous decision to launch the talks.
According to the same source, the EC has also recommended opening accession talks on science and research with Turkey.
