The EU does not have customs services and customs-related tasks are preformed by member-countries whose borders are the EU's external borders. On the day of admission to the EU Croatia will take over those tasks from Slovenia and Hungary, by which time its customs services will have to be able to perform such tasks.
Martina Dalic, chief negotiator on this chapter, said that Croatia's legislation on customs services was to a large extent adjusted to the EU legislation, with the Customs Administration facing hard work in preparation for activities that are performed by the EU customs service.
The second, bilateral stage of screening for this chapter will be held on March 15 and 16, when Croatian negotiators will speak about what has been done so far to adjust national legislation on customs services to the EU legislation in that field.
